A few weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of the night and could not get a verse off my head.
I had to sit down and write.
I wrote this poem. Don't ask me why. I just had to.
It is in Spanish.

Doesn't have a title ...

◆◆◆

Yes, there's more snow/sleet/freezing rain coming our way ....
And, we are all tired of dealing with it and having to stay home trying to entertain the kids, do some work from home, catch up with chores, you name it.
I just want to share a few links of websites that might help keep you, the kids and everyone else busy ... at least for a couple of hours (or at least maybe a few minutes).

The Smithsonian American Art Museum offers a variety of online exhibits:
Children under 10 are admitted free. In addition to touring the main sanctuary,
there is a visitor center that traces the history of Beth Sholom.
As of late I’ve
become quite interested in children’s books. With two little ones in the
family, it is fun to get books for them. I especially like checking thrift
stores. I am no expert by any means, but I get pretty happy when I make a great
find with a great price attached to it , say – 50 or 75 cents, $1. Very nice indeed. Not only do I get a deal, a community organization
gets a little help. Also as important, the little ones are learning to
appreciate books and to enjoy reading.

into another world. And, I want the little ones to get used to Spanish and one
day being able to speak it, read it, use it. It all starts with getting the
books in their hands and reading to them.
I am sure you also read and share stories and books with the young ones
in your family.

HOUSTON
-- NASA, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the Texas Forest Service and
Smokey Bear are teaming up to celebrate Smokey's 68th birthday Aug. 9 at
NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. The popular mascot will tour
the center and record a promotional announcement for NASA Television
that will air later this month.

Smokey Bear is the USFS
symbol for wildland fire prevention and represents the Advertising
Council Inc.’s longest-running public service announcement campaign.

On May 14, Smokey went where no bear had gone before. NASA astronaut
Joe Acaba and the Expedition 31 crew chose a plush Smokey doll to be the
team's launch mascot, celebrating their trip to the International Space
Station. During his tour about 250 miles above Earth, Smokey will turn
68 years old, sparking the celebrations back on the ground Thursday.

NASA's collaboration with the USFS began in 1971 when Stuart Roosa, an
Apollo 14 astronaut and former Forest Service smokejumper, orbited the
moon with a pack of seeds as part of a joint NASA/USFS project. Those
"moon trees" were planted around the country (many for the nation's
bicentennial in 1976) and around the world. Today, the trees stand as a
tribute to Roosa and the Apollo program.

This year, NASA and
the USFS signed a Space Act Agreement that unites the two agencies in
raising awareness about the importance of fire prevention and fire
safety. For more about the International Space Station and the NASA-USFS
connection, visit:

Trips to the supermarket are pretty uneventful for the most

On a recent Friday, after work, my husband and I decided to
make a quick stop at an area supermarket to pick up a few things.

Outside the entrance of the market was a scene that
regularly you do not see in suburbia ... a pregnant woman accompanied by a youngster displayed a handwritten message on a manila folder

We were struck by the sight. We decided we wanted to help. We

Right on cue, as I exited the market with a couple of bags

It happens every year. Christmas Day comes around and then, like magic, poof, it seems like it goes away.
For some reason it's over. Gone, done with it. Some people even take down their decorations, many move on to the next thing.
Do they forget that we are still in the midst of the 12 Days of Christmas?
No
more holiday music in the radio, when we really need it most! Now that
the frenzy is over (or almost) we can relax and enjoy ourselves.
Since
the beginning of December -- no, since before Thanksgiving -- there is
this buildup and then all of a sudden the rug is pull from under us.
I am sorry, but I feel a void.
I want to hear the jingle bells ringing.
I know there is New Year's .... but ...

Anyway, someone needs to do something.
Someone needs to send someone a memo:
Christmas is not done until after ... hmmm, lets see, mid January, maybe. Well, at least until Epiphany. Please.
It is the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" after all.
atorregrosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06501310760496308952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745586800576843651.post-10733956711289555942011-12-08T07:54:00.001-08:002011-12-08T07:56:42.932-08:00I just couldn't resist ...

abnormal weather conditions across the country the cost of feeding the
animals has gone up. (AP Photo/Houston Chronicle, Johnny Hanson)
leaving a gap at the edge of the eyelid which can lead to eye
irritation. The cause of this condition is not well understood,
but it occurs in a variety of animals and in humans, and appears to be
more common in snow leopards than in other species. The cubs have
otherwise developed well, playing, eating, running and jumping normally.

Nominate An Awe-Inspiring Mother!

Washington, D.C. – We all know at least one incredible mother who balances it
all: a social life, a spiritual life, her job, her family, and her bank
accounts, but what’s even more impressive is that she manages to do all of this
while also making time to volunteer or lead organizations that help others.
These women are an inspiration and American Mothers wishes to recognize and
honor them for what they have achieved.
American Mothers, Inc. ® is a national non-profit organization that has a
long tradition of honoring outstanding moms across the country and is now
seeking nominations for the 2012 National Mother of the Year® and Young Mother
of the Year. “It is our hope to recognize and thank moms for the many jobs they
do on a daily basis and the significant contributions they are making in the
community and our country,” says Connell Branan, president of American Mothers,
Inc. “We’re searching for those ordinary moms doing extraordinary things and
invite anyone to nominate that inspirational mother in their life.”
Nominations are also being accepted for a new Mother of Achievement Award.
This recognition is given to a mother who has given great service and positive
support to her children and/or other children and families in the community.
“American Mothers, Inc. created this award to acknowledge a mother for her
significant talents and community service,” explains Branan.
To qualify for the National Mother of the Year award, at least one of the
nominee’s children must be over the age of eighteen, and for the Young Mother of
the Year award, all of the nominee’s children must be under the age of
eighteen.
The 2011 winners were:
Ernestine Allen – Mother of the Year – Washington, D.C.
Shawnalee Eyre Pothier – Young Mother of the Year – Gilbert,
AZ
WASHINGTON
-- NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate is accepting
scholarship applications from graduate and undergraduate students for
the 2012 academic year. The application deadline is Jan. 15, 2012.

Graduate students must apply under a specific research topic to align
with NASA's aeronautics research programs. The list of available topics
is posted online.

NASA expects to award 20 undergraduate and
five graduate scholarships to students in aeronautics or related fields.
Undergraduate students entering their second year of study will receive
up to $15,000 per year for two years and the opportunity to receive a
$10,000 stipend by interning at a NASA research center during the
summer.

Graduate students will receive up to $35,000 per year
for up to three years, with an opportunity to receive a $10,000 stipend
interning at a NASA research center for up to two consecutive summers.

"Pairing our best aeronautical innovators at NASA with the nation's
brightest students, through internship opportunities in our scholarship
program helps ensure we will continue to have the talented workforce we
need to solve the challenges of 21st century aviation," said Jaiwon
Shin, associate administrator for the Aeronautics Research Mission
Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Students not
committed to a specific academic institution or program still may apply.
If accepted, they must be admitted by fall 2012 into an aeronautical
engineering program or related field of study at an accredited U.S.
university. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Scholarship money may be
used for tuition and other school-related expenses.

NASA's
Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate conducts cutting-edge,
fundamental and integrated systems research in traditional and emerging
disciplines. The intent is to help transform the nation's air
transportation system and to support development of future air and space
vehicles.

Its goals include improving airspace capacity and
flexibility; aviation safety and aircraft performance; reducing overall
noise, engine emissions and fuel usage.

For details about this scholarship program, a list of available research topics and the application process, visit:
